Speaking of Michael

He’s actually pretty crafty himself – although I don’t think he’d use “crafty” to describe himself. Artistic, perhaps, is a better fit. Our styles clash sometimes (industrial vs. vintage shabby chic) and he’s in charge of overall design in our home so sometimes my design dreams are crushed (I've even conceded to the fact that I'll never convince him to get the big purple puffy duvet cover I've been lusting over for months).

He recently did this overhaul for us.

I found this piece at ReStore: the fabulous Habitat for Humanity store that sells all sorts of building and home supplies AND supports the building of affordable homes for people in our community. They also claim to keep over 730,000 pounds of trash from landfills each year. How cool is that?! Check them out here: http://www.milwaukeehabitat.org/pages/view/restore

Wednesdays were 50% off days this summer and I found this beauty and scored it for only $35! (sorry about the poor quality of the photo – this was the iPhone photo I sent to Michael begging him to let me bring her home).

I, for one, really appreciated the rustic peeling green paint and thought we could work with it. Michael did not. Plus, the wood was falling off in some spots and just not quite up to par with what we like. And someone painted over the curved glass door in front!

So, it was stripped and sanded and painted and made to look like new.

He did all the work on this one and turned it into a beautiful sideboard for our living room. He’s so talented.
