Although it may not seem like much, our slipper chair has made great strides in the past 2 weeks. Again we spent most of class tying springs (tying well over 100 knots) and finally (FINALLY!) are done typing the seat springs (we haven’t even started the back yet, but I’m celebrating little successes!). I must say that I found tying springs this week much easier than last week. I had a good system down and could cruise through them pretty quickly.
We attached a layer of burlap and called it night. Just about finished with a nice crown seat (nevermind that we haven't actually sewn the burlap to the springs yet . . . ). This is how we left her:
Look at that! It's starting to resemble a chair again and we're well on our way to building her right back up! I think the hardest part is behind us at this point. 10 more classes to go.
In other upholstery news, I have made zero progress on our pink chairs. I just haven’t had the time. We’re going to Chicago for the weekend/early part of next week (yay!) so they’ll probably be on hold for another week.
In the meantime, we need to purchase some decorative upholstery tacks for the back of the chair and around the edges. I don’t think I have a good photo of it, but the back of the chair and each of the side panels had upholstery tacks on the ends. Most of them were in rough shape when I removed them so we’re on the hunt for new ones.
Michael wants silver. I’m leaning toward a darker tack. We both agree on simple.
We could go with nail head trim strips, making things a bit less fussy, but I’ve opted to go for single tacks since a). that’s what the chair had originally and b). we don’t like to do things the easy way.
So Michael’s job is to find the tacks (he doesn’t know that’s been assigned to him yet, though). I’ll let you know what he decides . . .
