layer up

At class this week we finally (finally!!) neared the end of building the chair back up and added our almost-last layers to the seat and back before we can get started on the fabric.

Our seat just needed another layer of cotton and a layer of muslin . . . .

(so to recap, that seat goes something like this: webbing, springs, burlap, rubberized hair, cotton layer 1, cotton layer 2, 1" foam, cotton layer 3, and finally, muslin. . . . )

The back needed 2 layers of cotton, 1" foam, another layer of cotton and the muslin (which we cut right at the end of class so I just draped it over to make me feel like we had that step almost done.

We're hoping that next week we'll be ready to at least measure out and cut the fabric. We have to finish the back and the arms and make sure it's all covered nicely in muslin, but then it's fabric time!

So Sunday we're off to the fabric shop to see what we can find.
It's nice to feel like it's finally coming together (I even sat in it this week to see if all those layers were adding the expected comfort!) and I'm feeling more and more confident we can bring her home in May.

Then I have to search for a project for next semester . . . .
