Is that a chair?

It's true. She's finally starting to get back to her old self again and really resembling a chair.

So last week, we made seemingly little progress and I forgot to bring my camera to class. This is what we walked into yesterday:

Beauty, right? I know. I swear we made more progress last night.

We got right down to business  starting with the addition of rubberized hair. My mom is convinced it's astroturf - I promise you it is not. It will add some comfort over these springs and will help keep our cotton in place.

Lots of hand-stitching later, this is what we were left with:

Not cute. We added two layers of cotton and then a layer of 1" foam.

Again, lots of hand-stitching later, this is what we had:
(Not sure what happened with our lighting here . . .  but you can at least see our foam-padded seat!)

Best news of my night: after next week, we'll need our fabric! F.I.N.A.L.L.Y!

We'll measure for it next week and then the shopping begins. Ultimately, the chair is going to end up in my mom's living room so she'll have the final say. I have dibs on inheriting it one day (you hear that, girls?!) so she'll have to give me a little say. In all likelihood, we'll take Michael to the fabric store and he'll decide for us.

  1. Both of your chair projects are looking good! Just curious if there is any rhyme or reason to those stiches on the green part, or if they're just random.
Can't wait to see them in person! Will your class chair be finished by Easter?

  2. by easter! oh dear. i'm hoping it will be finished by the end of our semester in may! i am anticipating summer school for this one . . .
and no - no rhyme or reason for the stitching in the rubberized hair. we just needed to add some random stitching to keep it from sliding around at all (even though the edges were stapled)
