Spring is in the air!

Ok. Not really. Probably not even close (I mean, really? Another 2-4 inches of snow tonight? Come on, Wisconsin).

But, springs ARE on our slipper chair and that’s just about exciting as warm air and blooming flowers, right?

I’ve been looking forward to last night’s upholstery class All. Week. Long.

Daydreaming about this room:

(someday, I'm hoping this, on a slightly smaller scale, will be my basement. you can't see the wall of industrial sewing machines, but it's beautiful. . . . . )

We got right to work last night and spent several hours attaching webbing and learning to tie springs.

One of the only salvageable parts of our chair was the springs – 8 coil springs – 2 steel and 7 copper.

2.5 hours later the class was ending and we still hadn’t finished spring tying. But, let me just say, that I was a little relieved for the end of class. My poor hands had some severe twine burn from pulling everything so tightly and tying those knots perfectly. They’re still aching this morning and full of blisters (and a little blood . . . ) but I am already anxiously awaiting next week’s class to finish those ties and get started on the springs for the back of the chair.

I know last night's progress may look minimal, and the spring tying easy, but I promise you it is not. I'm sure once I get the hang of it it'll come much easier, but these poor arms and hands just don't have the strength yet!
