How it all began

Not all that long ago I took a few sewing classes here: www.theneedleshop.net, my favorite little fabric shop in Chicago. Really, I just wanted to take the beginner upholstery class to see what I could come up with. How difficult could this really be? Turns out, it’s pretty difficult. I left the 4 hour class with this little beauty though, and it left me inspired to do more.
About the same time, Michael and I were packing our bags and leaving the Windy City for its better half to the north (also known as Milwaukee). We were ready for an interior design makeover for our new little apartment but also knew our bank account didn’t have much room for all our desires.
We compromised. We bought an almost-new couch of Craigslist (using the money we got from selling our older and much too large hand-me-down couch) and took this no-longer-in-use chair from my mom’s house and I attempted my first full DIY upholstery project.

What resulted, after many evenings spent trying to figure it all out, was a pretty cute almost-new chair for our living room:

Since then, I’ve been hooked and scouring our neighborhood (and my mom’s house) for old furniture to make beautiful again.
